Tania Ursomarzo

2.5.09 - 30.5.09
opening party 2nd May 4-7pm

twenty+3 projects is pleased to present Displaced, a new site specific work by Toronto based artist Tania Ursomarzo.

Tania Ursomarzo observes space, light and everyday phenomenon to create her site specific fibre based work. Immersed somewhere between art and architecture and constructed from a continuous piece of fibre, her installations are a culmination of drawing in and through time and space.

«My projects are the result of my experiences within a space over a period of time and the distillation of my processes of working» says Ursomarzo, «Both the act of creating the work and the activity that naturally occurs at the site become performative for me.»

In making Displaced, Ursomarzo will use the architectural features of the gallery and the movement of daylight through the space as her cue.  With the thread and her body she will trace her movements bringing together the architecture of the room and recorded moments of time.  The final piece will be a culmination of the choreography of its making and a drawing of the subtle changes in the space over time.

Ursomarzo’s work has been exhibited locally and internationally, won awards, and featured in various art and design magazines such as Espace and Canadian Architect. In June 2008, her video piece entitled, BEIJING 2007, represented Canada in the World One Minutes exhibition, featured at the Today Art Museum as part of the cultural program for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. She is also part of the WayUpWayDown collective in Toronto.  Displaced is her first exhibition in the UK.
