Exhibition 19.9.09 – 17.10.09
twenty+3 projects is pleased to present Show Me the Meat a two part exhibition of recent work by Czech born artist Josef Pluhar. There will be a spoken performance at Islington Mill Studios on 18th September at 7pm and an exhibition of related paintings in the twenty+3 projects gallery from 19th September.
Show Me the Meat is based on a series of cartoon like drawings and texts that represent stories accumulated over years involving the artist. These span childhood experiences in the former Czechsolovakia, art college experiences in Berlin, current incidents of life in South London. The subjects are lived experiences often coming from mistaken perceptions of reality: for example the title Show Me the Meat refers to a conversation with a security guard in a supermarket.
The performance incorporates the projection and narration of large scale drawings. In the gallery the paintings are accompanied by short written texts.

Coming from a background in sculpture and drawing, since 2002 he has developed performances which integrate drawing, storytelling and projection.
