twenty+3 projects is pleased to present The Skin You’re In, a solo exhibition by Canadian artist Johannes Zits.
The Skin You’re In presents a series textile-based collage works comprising of single or double male figures in various reclining poses. Built up of patterns, printed images, colours, texts and logos, the surfaces of the figures oscillate between skin/flesh and clothing.
These works, realized during a two-month residency in Shanghai, are made from a combination of found and locally purchased fabrics and consider beauty, glamour, sex, style as well globalization and intimate human relations.
“The Skin You’re In enabled me to further explore and exploit the seductive strategies used in mass media and reconsider the Utopian world that it promises,” says Zits, “itbuilds upon my recent work in which mixes the surface of the body with mass media images.”
Zits works in a variety of mediums including, video, installation and performance. He has shown widely in Canada and internationally including Europe and China. His work is a part of numerous gallery and private collections.
